    Laptop of mystery!

Man o man i LOVE computers.

So this corpse of an abused laptop ends up on my desk. It is CRIPPLED with all sorts of malicious software. So much so that the desktop does not appear! Not only that but when i try explorer.exe in the run window, that yeild NOTHING.

so naturally it is time to slash and burn! Thank you Mr. Gates.

Done formating the drive, and installing the copy of windows that i was given with the laptop.

But you see now i have to try and find out what the laptop model is so that i can download the driver packs for it. Which is proving to be difficult as Toshiba has decided to place the ID sticked RIGHT where the laptop rubs against the knee of the lap of the user...

So i have no ID sticker to reffer to! Any idea how i can figure out what the model ID of this box is? Now that i am finished typing this... i think i will try Everest.

    Hello again.

"... difficult as Toshiba has decided to place the ID sticked RIGHT where the laptop rubs against the knee of the lap of the user... "

People actually put a laptop on their lap? I don't think I've ever seen it. Laptops are always on a table or in a docking station. ;>)

Everest to the rescue! (You're getting good at this.) Post back with your results.

Another thought; Does the POST screen provide any model numbers etc when first booting? (You may have to turn off the manufacturers "splash screen in the bios to see the POST screen. "Enable diagnostic screen" or similar.)

You know what is fun? That i cant glean ANYTHING from the post screen. And Everest yeilded which processor the machine has, and nothing about the model of the laptop! Ack!

Not to fret, i had the laptops owner dig out the receipts and let me know what the model number actually is.

So as usual, thanks for the reply Dan. Are you the ONLY one that replies to posts here?

No, I'm not the only one. Many of the "Staff" monitor this forum, as well as other site members who are, or are becoming, "regulars".

Glad to see you obtained the required info. Please inform as to your results towards driver procurement and installation.
