    lexmark printer issues

I recently made the mistake of buying a Lexmark A-I-O x4270. I have a Dell Dimension 2200, Win XP. I cannot install the printer with the CD (MS Dos error) and cannot restart the print spooler. I've tried to remove the spooler dependency on the Lexbce server by deleting all the files under lexbces.exe and have had no luck fixing this. The dependency under the spooler properties are still there and I still cannot start the spooler. I just want this freakin printer to work!

I recently had a Dell printer, but removed it because I was tired of being forced to order the print cartridges solely from Dell. I've googled just about everything I can think of to try to fix this. ANY HELP will be greatly appreciated.
    Thanks

Did you know that Dell printers are actually made by Lexmark? That's why both brands are so cheap to buy, yet so expensive to get replacement cartridges for

Have you tried re-installing the Windows XP service pack? That may repair any broken files relating to the spooler. Make sure that there are no components for the Lexmark installed under Add/Remove Programs before you try this though.

Let us know if that helps

-No Lexmark programs were found under Add/Remove programs, but lexmark icon is still present in toolbar
    -Previous printer was removed
    -SP2 was installed

Other errors: -Cannot start print spooler-Error 1068 dependency group failed
-Installation wizard cannot install hardware-error found
-Cannot install from installation disc-"16 bit Windows Subsystem Error"-not
suitable for running MS-DOS/MS Windows applications
    - Printer will not install and driver is not found

    I'm stumped.

OK...after much trial and error, I've managed to get the installation disc to work after correcting the 16 bit problem, I've downloaded the driver from Lexmark successfully, I've gotten the print spooler started as well. Now...the final thing holding me up is that the print monitor is not specified once the installation wizard finishes transferring the relevant files. I'll keep searching for more info, but if anyone has anything it would be much appreciated. Thanks.

When I bought the Lexmark, I didn't know about the correlation between them and Dell. I was just tired of having to order cartridges. At least I can buy the Lexmark cartridges locally. Next time I'll do a little research and make a better investment when it comes to choosing a printer. The loops I'm jumping through to get this thing to work is rediculous.
