    F Drive has disappeared

The F drive is an additional storage drive. It can not be located. All other drives are working fine. Can you help restore? OS Windows XP Home Edition.

Thanks in advance for any help or recommendations.

Did this just happen? Is this an internal slave drive? Is it detected by the BIOS?

It is not under My Computer? or Disk Management?

Is it on a controller card or the motherboard? IDE Primary slave?

What is the make of the drive? You will find diagnostics here:

Although if the BIOS is not detecting then nothing else will.

    Jephree,

It had just happened, it is an internal slave drive and is detected by the bios. It is in neither seen under My computer or Disk Management. I believe it is IDE primary slave. I do not know the make of the drive. I had done a few of the recommendations on this site with people who have had similar problems. After 7 hours of trying different things I was able to see the F drive under My computer, though the drive said it had 132KB used done of the files in the folders were there. Today, it is gone again. And of course I did not make a backup.

Which of the links on the Tacktech would you recommend, since I do not know the make?

I have just ran "chkdisk" received, Warning, the "F" Parmeter is not specified. The "F" drive appear again after booting system, but came up local drive, which is not the name of this drive. I tried to rename it and before I could try and repair disk, it disappeard.

Was this drive functioning OK previously?

Can you outline all of your drive configurations: as you mention a second slave?

The diagnostics are manufacturer specific. If you ever see the drive in the Device Manager it should list the manufacturer. Also Belarc would under Drives (assuming that it detects it).

    Jephree,

Thank you for your help. My problem turned out to be the power source, it just wasn't cooling it down enough and a cable inside attaching the drive was rusted. The place where the computer was purchase is a ride, so unplugging it and taking it for a drive, the fellow plugged it in and there it was back again and all the files were there. He upgrade the power source and then came across the cable it had started to rust, (something he has never seen). Thanks for your time and knowledge have a Merry Christmas!
