    Is my monitor totally lost?

I have a 21" monitor. It was working perfectly and is supposed to be good for resolution up to 1600X1200. I was using it at a lower res setting and decided to try it at a higher setting. I set it to 1280 X 1024 and it worked great for a couple hours. Then it kinda flickered once and then seemed to resize itself down to a bit lower res for a couple seconds and then went black. I tried to get it to come back on. When I would turn it on it made the usual sound of the tube warming up(or whatever it is that it always did), but then about the time that it usually would have the picture come on there is a very quiet click sound and it stays dark. Does this mean the monitor is probably just dead or is there some setting to be changed or some way to fix it? Any help would be appreiated.

Its possible it blew the fuse if its a crt monitor. Letting it sit and cool down didnt help? If you have another monitor to try, do that first to rule out problems with the computer.

It is a CRT. It's a viewsonci P810. I didn't know they had fuses. How would I check that? Or is that something that would have to be done in a shop or something.

Just for information.. A ticking sound from a unit using a switched mode power supply (SMPS) as most modern day monitors are is a sign of the SMPS trying to restart after going into shutdown due to to heavy a load of loss of load depending on the design.

This is a common result due to parts failure. The sound you hear at power up is the deguassing coil operation showing you have power to the unit. If this is the case you should see the power light flashing.

Just a long distance idea for information only.....Good luck...Jack

Quick bit of additonal info on monitors. They have 2 main fuses, one in the plug and the other in the PSU within the inset of the montor.

Also if there is no light (indicating that power is present within the circuit), then either the PSU in the monitor is knackered, or even worse the guns have failed completely.

Either way DON'T open the monitor to find out and they store about 40,000 to 100,000 volts!!!!!

Best thing to do is -
