    CMOS Checksum Error

    Hi everyone,

I am having a few problems with one of the computers at work where its throwing out a CMOS Checksum Error when booting up. I understand this is probably due to a nackered battery on the motherboard (not positive, though).

The motherboard is a "BioStar M7V1B v. 2.4" and it's inside an Advent 3208 PC.

The things sitting on my mind, which I would like clarified before taking any action, are:

    1) Is it definitely the battery which needs replacing, and if not what else could it be
    2) If it is the battery, how do I go about fixing it? (Never done one before and since it's not my PC I wouldn't like to find out the hard way... as I usually do!)

    Thanks
    Nick

(P.S. Anyone wanting more info give me a shout and I'll try to help as best I can)

If it's a works computer do they not have a contract or an engineer to fix it?

personally I'd leave well alone and let them get someone to fix it, then if it goes wrong it's not your fault

To save on money I am the techie! I'm half way through my A+ course at the moment so I'm getting there, but I'm yet to gain the experience of silly problems like this.

It's my mothers company and we have a spare nacky PC at home so if it breaks, then so be it (I'll swap and she won't notice!)

But I'd still like to be able to fix it, if it's possible so any ideas would be welcomed

Well for £2 I may aswell buy one and see - comes out of the company money anyway and I can't see it missing that too much!

I don't have it to hand, but I can find it from somewhere no doubt. Cheers for the help so far

If you buy one from me on the D-A-L Trader auction site (there's a tab for the Auctions at the top of this page), I'll give you free advice on fitting it!
