HP nx9000 keeps beeping upon startup
My HP nx9000 running on Windows XP SP2 keeps beeping non-stop upon startup even before Windows loads. Needs to press ESC key several times before beeping stops, then Windows will load as usual. When clicking on a file or folder, Windows will pop-up a window to delete either the file or folder. Selecting either Yes, No or Cancel does not help. The same window will keep popping-up. Tried upgrading the BIOS, re-format the hard disk and re-install Windows, but problem still persist. Please help.

Sounds like the beeping is the "Stuck key error" being reported by the BIOS and it sounds like the key that has a problem is the Delete key. Not really sure what to suggest to resolve it though, apart from getting a new keyboard. On some keyboards (though not all of them), it is possible to actually pop the keys off. Before trying to pop the Delete key off though, see if you can just wiggle it about to loosen it up.
Incidentally, is this problem intermittent? If it's not, then you shouldn't have been able to format the hard disk and re-install Windows without the problem becoming apparent. In which case, I could be wrong.
Let us know whether that helps

Hi DJNafey Thanks for your reply. Btw my HP nx9000 is a laptop computer. I did remove almost all parts of the laptop ie. the combo drive, hard disk, floppy, RAM, processor and off course the keyboard as well and have them re-assemble just to make sure that all component are installed properly. Nothing much that I can do with the keyboard since the the entire unit is a flat piee of fully enclosed pcb board with only the keys exposed. After assemble problem still persist. Strange thing is opening a file or folder on the desktop will result a pop-up window asking me to delete the file, but if I were to click on the Start menu and activate let say My Document folder, the pop-up window will not appear. I suspect perhaps it is something to do with Virus infection. However I can't trace any infection using AVG Anti-Virus. Is there a possibility that a Virus may have overwriten something into the BIOS area of my laptop? Pls help.

A virus could make this happen, although there aren't many (or any) that can actually access your BIOS. I've just had another thought - try unplugging your mouse and/or disabling the touchpad if you can in the BIOS, then restart the laptop and see if it makes any difference.
