    Re: Computer crashing

    Those errors point respectivly to:

    Cannon Photo

    Dialup

    Epson Scanner

You can get real time heat sensors from any SMART devices using Everest:

Have you tried troubleshooting by eliminating peripherals?

    Your DVD drive for example?

    How about your graphics card?

i checked the temperatures around the time that the computer would shut off, and the CPU was running at 96 degrees C, while everything else seemed to be normal, i removed the heatsink and i think i may have put it on backwards when i installed it because one side of the thermal material was melted and it looked like it wasn't aligned properly underneath. is there anyway i can bring down the temperature by settings, or do i just need to get a new heatsink, and is this likely to be the problem?

    Thank, Brandon

96°C is extremely hot! Does the CPU have a fan?

Do you know the ID of the motherboard & the CPU?

and yea it has a fan, and it appears to be working, but i'm wondering if the thermal material is too messed up to be effective anymore, cause its melted on one side, or is this normal? (haven't pulled off too many cpu fans). I have been monitoring the temp, right now its at 85 C, but earlier when i was using the dvdrom it was raising and the highest it hit was 96, when i boot it up its in the 20s, and when windows loads it reaches 60 and gradually raises to the 80s, and if i do much else it hits the 90s

You definitly have a heat issue with your CPU.

I will move this to the Hardware section as others reading there might have more ideas.
