    Display Issues

I recently bought an ATI Radeon 9600XT installed it and everythings fine. Today I was playing a game and suddenly the screen went funny, by that I mean it went blocky and the colours Pink and purple took over. A major graphic fault. It does it with all the games I play, but the desktop is fine. I reinstalled the driver, no dice, I had the newest driver, I think. I reinstalled that too, nothing. I had a look at the actual card, I couldnt see any thing wrong. I dont know what to do. Any ideas? Thanks in advance.
    Kind Regards,
    Dan

It may be a contact or dirty contact problem. Try removing and reinserting the card. This helps clean the contacts. (If it was placed in a previously unused slot, the contacts may be tarnished.)

You didn't mention your O/S, but you can navigate to the latest ATI drivers for your system here.

Does Device Manager report any problems with the card?

Hey Dan, I'm using WinXP Pro. and the device manager doesnt seem to pick up any problems, I'll remove the card and try that and let you know, thanks for the help.

Right, I pulled out the card and put it back in. Still no different, the slots didnt look dirty and neither did the contacts look tarnished. any other ideas? Thanks again for your help.
    Regards,

Have you verified that you have the latest drivers for that card?

I dont have the latest drivers, but I did, I downloaded and installed them, and it became worse, not only were the games all pixelated with pink, the desktop was as well. This problem only started the other day while i was playing a game. would an out of date driver do that? Thanks.

You can try rolling back the driver version one or two steps. Sometimes the latest drivers are too much for a not so new motherboard.

    Other possible tries;

Ensure any applicable bios settings (display related) are correct

Test the card/drivers in another system

Install another (same make/model) card (warranty replacement?, else an expensive proposition)

Hey Dan, I thought I'd let you know, I put my old card back in (its an GeForce FX 5200) and every things fine. So its definatly the card. I called the place I bought it from and they said that they would get another one in just to make sure. I'll let you know what happens.
    Thanks for the help.
    Kind Regards,
    Dan

Hey Dan, took the computer into the Techies today, said that the Card was defective, didn't know why, so they replaced it free of charge, but as of yesterday, their supplier has supersieded that product, so they no longer sold it, so I ended up getting a GeForce 6600. Fine by Me. Any way just thought you might wanna know, thanks again for your help.
    Kind Regards,
    Dan
