I started to solve this issue by thinking there was a virus infection. After the able help of Neal in Spyware, Adware.............forum, I am following his advice and asking if my problem may instead be related to soft/hardware. My thread in Spyware..... is titled "HiJack This Log author doctom". My initial question read-----
"The first issue--is that upon booting the comp I consistantly receive a warning cloud in the icon tray to the effect that NAV Internet Security is not auto-enabled. As directed, I click the cloud to get to the NAV warning box and within about 5-8 seconds the CPU makes a mechanincal noise and the warning box changes to auto-enabling ON. On more than one ocassion I have visited the NAV application only to discover that the auto-enabling appears to in fact be ON. This is troubling since I am concerned about those few seconds when it strikes me that I could be infection vulnerble.
The Second Issue--this brings me to my second problem and that is that recently I have had to restart my computer upon my first boot since I am not able to connect initially. After restart the connection seems to happen just fine. When this has happened, I have checked with the other comp on the wireless and all are working fine.
In the interest of solving this problem, I am pasting a copy of a HiJackThis Log for your review. I hope you can make something out since both issues seem to related to something I cannot figure out on my own."
By the way my machine is 6 monthes old manufactured by AMA Systems in Columbia Maryland, seems to be working well up until now and I am running Windows XP operating system.
After an extensive search with Neal's direction I am referred to the possibility of soft/hardware issue instead.
Do any of you have any thoughts on this latest suggested direction??
First Issue: looking at your hijack this log I do not see NAV Internet Security set to start on boot. Untill you go online you should have no worries "about those few seconds when it strikes me that I could be infection vulnerble."
Why it is not starting if it is set to I do not know. I am in a very negative space re: Norton at the moment so I should not reply. One thing that I will note is that if you are running the Norton firewall be sure to turn off the SP2 wall.
Second Issue: I am not sure what you mean by "not able to connect initially"?
Are you referring to your ISP connection or your ability/dis to boot into XP?
Third Issue: you are starting up many unnecessary applications. If these are not causing problems they are at least complicating things for you.
This is a very handy little app that does many things: http://hometown.aol.co.uk/JRMC137/HJTHotkey/index.htm
Basically it creates hotkeys to aid in the searching of HijackThis logs.
One aspect that is a plus for everyone is that it creates a hotkey for google.
Highlight any text then press Ctrl - G and you will get the google search for what you have high lighted.
I bring this to your attention as you can search your own startup section of your hijack this log to weed out what you do not need.
04 entries in a log are startup items. These are yours':
In that first line you can highlight SiS Windows KeyHook & press Ctrl - G & google will show you what it is. & on & on the text between the [...]O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [SiS Windows KeyHook] C:\WINDOWS\System32\keyhook.exe
