Did this happen all of a sudden? Were things OK before?

Is this a custom built machine?

    http://www.giga-byte.com/MotherBoard..._GA-7NNXPV.htm

I would remove everything but the RAM; CPU; & graphics card.

Clearing the CMOS might be a shot.

Does it behave the same way every time? Freezes on reading the CPU?

Have you another CPU to try?

    hi jephree thanks for replying
no its not a custom build the case, cpu, processer are shop built and fitted.
yes it did happen all of a sudden and things were fine before.
i have reset the cmos and it still does it.
it is the same every time i try to boot i.e. freezing when reading the cpu.
i will try booting with just ram,cpu and g/card.
i havent got another cpu, for now anyway.
the pc was fine for about 6 months but as i say its my childrens pc so they could have done anything, saying that i think its definatly a hardware problem.

    cheers
