Directx9.0c, XP home SP2 cause freezing during game play?

Re: Why does my display freeze?
Okay,
I replaced keyboard and mouse but still have same problem as before, maybe even worse at times (freezing).
Cold it be my monitor cable ? Do they go bad? Using a different monitor and cable was the only other thing we did at the computer store different then at home...inwhich as I said, there the thing did not freeze once.
Hope you are doing well,
Travis

You mentioned the store used PS2 keyboard & mouse?
Is that what you tried at home? The wireless would have been USB? No?
Do you still get the "!" in the Device Manager by the keyboard?
Do you have any other USB issues?

Yeah, but USB KB has a PS2 adapter on it.....all I could find were like this!
They are both plugged into the P@s ports foe each.
Do you still get the "!" in the Device Manager by the keyboard?
NO
Do you have any other USB issues?
Not that I am aware of or that show in device manager.
Thanks again

am back.....still watching my game play from the sielines as my systen continues to freeze during gameplay. Only changes have been to update directx lately. System has pushed same software fine inthe past.
Specs:
Compaq Presario 5320US
1.5 mhz
XP HE SP2
512 MB Mem (sdram 133)
64 MB PY Verto video card
Wireless KB/Mouse
Previous attempts to fix have failed to include:
Verifying mem health
Verfiying HD health
temps are good
event viewer states nothing relavant
have defraged/scandisked
have shut down background processes
installed AVG virus
System will come out of freeze after 10-15 seconds but then refreeze a minute or so later.
Any ideas?

Napper,
I am merging your old thread & then sending it back to the Hardware Section.
Hopefully the bump will bring it to others' attention as well.
I will also review the whole &

Hey guy....you available for consultation? Still fighting te freezing issue......been almost a year now with no fix. Thinking about reformatting HD with the quickrestore discs from Compaq....any ideas or suggestions?
Could I have accidently goofed DX up when adding upgrade of SP2 and DX around saem time....I have been told that SP2 had DX 9.0c in it and trying to install DX update over that might be the problem. However when running DXdiag....says no problem noted.

Reinstalling is certainly worth a try. I just reread this thread and nothing new popped up
I would still suspect a heat issue somewhere...
SP2 does include DirectX 9.0c and as far as I know there is no update to that at this point.
Sorry I don't have anything more specific.
If you restore XP to factory settings and the problem continues you can at least know that you have a hardware issue.

I have a virus that is not allowing me to view hidden files or folders It won't either allow me to run regedit or any programs to fix that But I can access most of my files for backup I just want to somehow select my hidden files, and copy them to a hard drive for backup, but it won't let me unless I am able to view them Is there any possible way around this, just to let me select them?

For some reason while I had windows vista, I started to get blue screens constantly I than installed windows xp and the computer was a'lot faster but still, I got the blue screens There are no viruses on my computer I don't know much about fixing computers, so hopefully I won't have to take something out or whatever inside my computer, im hoping I can just fix this problem by doing something ON the computer ***The blue screens will only appear if I basically have alot of graphic material running on the computer, such as if I start a game, play a move, or video on youtube I think I remember my brother telling me that the problem could be some driver he put in, but he didn't know for sure Hes the computer genious and the mr fix it in the house But he's never home and won't ever look at the problem and fix it (Please someone help me, I have searched all over google with no solutions ) The most common errors I get on the blue screen are: irql_not_less_or_equal driver_irql_not_less_or_equal Here is my recent error logs starting from today
Some may be the same as other error logs, but youll be able to see which problem occurs the msot) The device, \Device\Scsi\nvidesm1, did not respond within the timeout period The device, \Device\Scsi\nvidesm1, did not respond within the timeout period The wscsvc service failed to start due to the following error: The executable program that this service is configured to run in does not implement the service The device, \Device\Scsi\nvidesm1, did not respond within the timeout period The wscsvc service failed to start due to the following error: The executable program that this service is configured to run in does not implement the service The device, \Device\Scsi\nvidesm1, did not respond within the timeout period The device, \Device\Scsi\nvidesm1, did not respond within the timeout period ***So I guess something is reall messed up with that error above, since I have had how many error logs with that message Please, someone tell me how to fix this, it is so annoying having to restart my computer constantly and losing stuff I can't play my favorite games anymore because of this
