    Fuzzy computer screen

My computer screen (tft) keeps on shimmering and then looking neon / inverse colours and fuzzy after it's been on for a while. If I turn it off and leave it for about half an hour it is okay. Do you know why this keeps happening? And more importantly, how I can fix it.

Is this a new problem? Is this an old monitor? Do you notice extreem heat?

Are there settings/ buttons on the monitor to adjust?

Also check under the Device Manager for any problems:

    Start/Run/ devmgmt.msc

been happening for about a couple of weeks now and the screen is about 3 years old. Haven't really noticed any extreme heat, but I've tried adjusting the screen with the buttons at the bottom but that just aligns the screen.

Will try the device manager thing and get back to you.

Could it be just that I need a new screen, or something worse (cpu problems?)

What is the make & model of the monitor?

The computer/ CPU probably has little to do here.

It is either the monitor or your graphics card.

    What is your Operating System?

The monitor has no button/ setting for say: Auto Adjust?

It's an Advent flat screen monitor - sorry don't know the model as we bought it from PC World with no box or instructions!

    I've got Windows XP

Also, there is an auto adjust, but that doesn't make any difference.

Did you check the Device Manager?

    Have you moved the screen?

Is it near any electro-magnetic devices?

Large speakers? Anything with magnets? Motors? etc.?

Feel the top/back of the case/slots when you first boot & things are ok.

Then feel again when the image deteriorates: is there a noticable heat difference?

Do you know what graphics card you have?

    Start/Run/ dxdiag | Display | Device

The problem has been solved. It turns out that it was overheating. Got a new screen now and (touch wood) the problem has gone away. Thanks for all your help.
