blasting RAM
laptop returned from repair shop, started freezing, nothing at present.
repair shop replaced RAM and everything started to work correctly for couple of hours and now everything as before repaires, not completing POST.
laptop - standard Acer Travelmate 602TER.
first problem was CMOS battery which I replaced, system started, freezed and consecutive starts did nothing; not even access to BIOS. Repair shop found foulty RAM, replaced it. Laptom started OK, Win2K loaded proply, virus check show all clear, system restarted, freezed, and now nothing.

Your posting isn't clear as to how many times it's been "in the shop" and it's current state. If you've replaced the cmos battery, have you returned settings (especially the hard disk parametetrs) back to where they were? (Sometimes an "Auto-Detect" of the hard disk(s) will return up to three parameter settings.) If the system automatically (at this point) picks a "default" setting, whereas the "original" setting was one of the other three possibilities, the drive can partially function.
It could be the bad ram has "corrupted" paths/files. If the ram is still suspect, download, and use the downloaded file to create a bootdisk for MemTest86 and test the system ram for at least a couple of hours. Any faults...... well....
Another possibility is the hard drive. Most manufacturers diagnostics (bootdisk creation files) can be found here.
The more details you post, the easier/quicker resolution elements can be covered.

Hi Dan
Thanx 4 all info, will follow it a bit latter.
I just returned laptop to the shop, looks like something can be sensitive to temp.
I was fed up having it as good.
It started OK, loaded O/S (Win2K), I run CHKDSK - no errors found. everything get frozen shortly after CHKDSK completed checking, next start wrong checksum on CMOS, couple of starts with nothing; again leaving everything for few hours, system started, S/O almost completly loaded and again all frozen.
BIOS was showing correct parameters for all the drives. Laptop is without any modifications or upgrades, still original BIOS, only O/S changed long time ego (came with Win 98, I changed to Win2K, all service packs, etc)
So, now I'm waiting 4 some answers from repair shop (don't like to pay and have nothing for it). If they can make it workable, for sure I want to put it through all the tests advised by you, at least to be sure that damn thing is working proply.
Thanx again

Good to hear it's back in the shop. If the problems stemmed from their actions, the problem is theirs and not yours. As well, they're probably better equiped than yourself for quick diagnosis of the machine.
A couple of hours of the recommended tests can't hurt, other than your time. They will contribute towards confirmation that all is now fine. (Once it's back - "repaired".) Please post the outcome if you don't mind. And of course, if all is not right, post the current problems.
