both DVD/CD drive ERROR... not working!!!
Okay, I think I have some corrupted files here and I really need some help. First of all I have two DVD drives, one of them a dvd-rw (D drive) and the other CDrw/dvd (E drive). Both drives will open and shut but will not autoplay anything put in them and not even recognize the inserted cd/dvd when looking in My Computer. Reading a previous thread on this site, I tried to fix the autoplay function, but that looks fine and is enabled. I also found that when manually choosing "Eject" under My Computer and then closing the CD tray, the E drive works fine. This does not work for the D drive as I keep getting the Error Message "D:/ error function Not accessible" or something like that. Also on the first restart both drives work on the first try, but once they are ejected I have to restart again to put something else in, so something is happening when that drive is ejected??. This is really frustrating and I do not know how this started or how to solve this problem. I have been away from home for several weeks, and believe that some of the roomates might have messed around on my computer and somehow files were missing/corrupted. Please direct me towards getting this taken care of, I appreciate your time,

Assuming that You are running XP:
One quick check is to open the Device Manager:
Start/Run/ devmgmt.msc
Expand (+) IDE ATA/ATAPI controllers
then click on Secondary IDE Channel
go to the Driver tab & then choose Uninstall
OK & OK on out & reboot.
XP should redetect your drives & reload the drivers.

K tried what you told me...still no luck. Again, I can get my dvd-writer to work (burn dvd for example) if I reset the computer with the blank dvd inserted and everything ready to go. But i have to reset each time I want to burn a new DVD or put a PC game in, anything. I'm really afraid that I have messed up my computer considerably by "cleaning" my computer weekly with various programs such as Ccleaner/Ace Utilities/spybot etc. Is there some sort of software or update I can get that will repair or insert the missing files I need? Sounds like a quick fix so probably no such program but let me know what I can do to best remedy this problem. Also have been noticing missing DLL messages lately too. I have tried to revert to a restore point but that has not changed anything noticeably, I am going to try to go back further and see if that helps. Thanks so much for your time and suggestions.
