Question Computer Turns Off by itself!

Hi, I have a question to ask. Recently, when I turn on the computer, in about 5 seconds or more, it will turn off, all by itself, someone told me that it needed to be cleaned on the inside because it might have alot of dust, so I cleaned it real good on the inside with an air duster and computer cloth, and thought it would be good to go, we'll right after I had put everything back together, I went to see if it would work and I turn it on and it took about a couple of minutes and then it turned itself back off on me again. What could the be the problem? Can anyone suggest something I can do to fix this? Thank you all so much.

Can you describe exactly what is happening.

For example you press the power button ... any lights? fans? anything on the screen?

If you see the Logo screen & or BIOS POST how far does it go? Any Beeps?

When it shuts down what happens? All Power goes off? Or the screen freezes? etc.

When it runs for a couple of minutes does it ever get into Windows?

Were things working OK previously? Any new Hardware & or software?

Sure, this is what I do:

I press the power button to turn it on.
The lights work fine and the fan starts running.
Bios loads and Before The Windows screen pops up......
It turns off. All by itself.

The other time I did the same thing, I turned the PC on and everything started loading until I got to the start screen (with the icons) and when the icons were loading, it turned off..

That last time I did it was after I cleaned to computer on the inside. and it still happened...

When it shuts down, it really shuts down, everything goes off on the computer, except for the monitor, it becomes a blank screen but the button glows yellow, (not green, it gets green when the computer is turned on)

Everything was working just fine, and all of a sudden it just started doing it.
Even after I cleaned the computer... the other post I made was from another computer I have Thanks so much jephree for your help

Are you plugged into a surge protector? Try a different outlet. Leave it unplugged for a minute or two.

Are you familiar with clearing the CMOS? Jumpers/battery/etc.?

    Just to clarify:
When it shuts down the power actually shuts off to the computer?

Try with the case open & with your self grounded feel the power wires (especially near any connectors & or splitters). Do you detect any HOT spots?

Also in this vein: does the PSU get very hot? How about the CPU/heatsink?

    Is this an old machine?

Yep its plugged into a surge protector, ok I will try doing that.

Umm I know what a CMOS is but I dont know how to clear it, lol sorry.

Yes it shuts down the power completely.

-Try with the case open & with your self grounded feel the power wires (especially near any connectors & or splitters). Do you detect any HOT spots?
Yep I checked and there is no hot spots, I even checked to see if any of the wires were loose.

No it actually doesnt, the cooling fan actually is doing a good job lol

    Is this an old machine?
Its from 2002, more than 3 years old, I think it might be old now,
