Trashy HP Wont Start
My sister has one of those Walmart HP specials. I replaced the PS 3 months ago an it worked fine again. She got up from it last night and found it dead this a.m. ( she left it on) I thought maybe the PS supply went bad again so I bought another and replaced it. I plugged it all back together and nothing. I thought that maybe the front ( idiot ) switch went bad so I cut the wires and wired it direct. Still nothing. I haven't tried reseating the CPU and I do remember it being bumped when I installed the PS but I don't think I moved it. Is thier any other options or ideas to check. I have looked on the board for the power light but am not seeing it, which means it may be there but it isn't on. I went through the norms, changed power cords, changed power sockets, but the dumb thing gives me nothing nothing nothing. Thanks for any ideas!!!!!

Are all your power plugs plugged in?
If it is an ATX board there will be a small 4pin connection as well as the main.
Even if the CPU RAM etc. were bad or missing the board should beep & have some LED's
Try a new battery perhaps & resetting the CMOS ... but still there should be some indication of power.

Although doesn't the CPU have to be running to get to the POST (BIOS pre-operating system tests)? If the CPU has gone completely dead, I think you might find that it doesn't get far enough too beep. I think clearing the CMOS or replacing the battery would be a good idea - that will restore the motherboard to 'factory default' settings which should give you the most compatibility and the biggest chance of getting it to switch on.

Well I unhooked everything and cleaned it and re-assembled it and then it would start to boot up lasting about ten seconds then shut down again. I took the CPU fan off and tested it and it seemed to run fine. I did notice the 4 pin connector beside the main power connection but was unable to find a mate to it. I checked the old power supply and it didn't have a mate to it either. I just assumed it was non essential because I couldn't find a mate. Was I misstaken? If so where did the connection go?
Thanks

It's hard to say without knowing the motherboard make & model.
Do you see a label on the board to ID it?
If it is an ATX board that connection is vital. If it is not then that connection is superfulious.
When it tried to boot ... when did it shut down?
Counting RAM? Detecting drives?
Also DJNafey would be correct in that if the processor is post mortum it probably won't beep
Try starting with the case open | be grounded | feel near the CPU fan:
Is it cold? Is it warm? Is it hot?

Well I tried several ideas offered and I really appriciate the feedback but I just got sick of fighting it. I think it fried the CPU because of no beeps so i just ordered a new cpu and motherboard for it. Thanks again for all your help!!!
