    problem with defragmenting issue

i tried to defrag my comp and a message came up which said:
Disk Defragmenter has detected that chkdsk is scheduled to run on the volume: Please run chkdsk /f

I did, then this C:\windows\system32\chkdsk.exe comes up and says:
The type of file system is NTFS.
    Cannot lock current drive.
Chkdsk cannot run because the volume is in use by another process.
What do i do please help

    start > run > cmd
in the new window type chkdsk/f
when prompted to run on boot choose Y & reboot.

okay , now when i reboot it comes up that it is scaning disk for consistancy and then 1 out of 3 is good, then 2nd one goes to 49% then says error has occurred. When i do the run,com the dos screen comes up and says
c:documents and settings\owner. it does not recognize yes

What exactly happened at 49%? Did it freeze? What was the exact error message?

Sometimes these scans take some time/ seeming to stick at points.

Are you saying that you cannot rerun chkdsk/f ?

I am a bit confused now.

Chkdsk/f runs outside of windows. In other words there would be nothing else that you could be doing.

    Just to clarify:

    go to Start/Run/ cmd

In the Command Prompt type chkdsk/f

It will ask you if you want to run chkdsk on your next boot: yes or no.

You choose y & then reboot.

Check disk should run before windows loads.

Is this what you were doing?

When i reboot it says you have 10 seconds to cancel chkdsk, a disk needs to be scanned for consistency. Then it says 3/3. 1st scan completes, then part 2 goes to 49% stops and says error then proceeds to the screen and i can use the computer as normal. Then a box comes up that says in upper left corner Invalid Backweb Application id #137903 I clear it from screen and work on my computer, then i try to defrag and it comes up Disk defragmentation has detected that chkdsk is scheduled to run on the volume: Please run chkdsk /f I go to run and type in chkdsk /f then it comes up the type of file system is NTFS
    cannot lock current drive

chkdsk cannot run because the volume is in use by another process. Would you like to schedule this to be checked the next time the system restarts. yes/no I type in yes and then it does the same thing over when i reboot.

    Invalid Backweb Application

When I log on to Windows, I get runner error "invalid backweb application, id 137903", how do i fix this?.

You have downloaded a program that contains spyware or adware. The spyware or adware has been removed but the program requires the spyware to be installed in order to run, without it you will get the Run Time error. This program runs on startup so you will have to uninstall the program that had the spyware associated with it. Run Msconfig from the Start > Run window and turn off the progam that you downloaded, or uninstall the program.

If you still cannot find the program do a search for files that contain the word "Backweb"
    Also:

Please follow owen's Instructions and then post your log in a new thread in the Spyware, Adware, Viruses and HijackThis Logs section. (Not in this section please).

    DON'T RUN THE FILE - IT'S SPYWARE, ADWARE OR A VIRUS !!!

    1. Reboot.
    2. Go into Windows Explorer and open the "C:\Documents and Settings\Owner\Local Settings\Temp folder. Delete everything within that folder (including any sub-folders).
    3. Empty the Recycle Bin (note that this will also permanently remove any other files that you previously deleted to the Recycle Bin.
    4. Reboot.

See if you still have the same problem. If you have, follow the advice in the Spyware, Adware, Viruses And HiJackThis Logs board in the forum. Then post a HiJackThis log there. Let us know when you've done so and I'll go and have a look
