Hi there,

I opened up my laptop today (after leaving it in standby for a few hours previously in the day) and found that the screen would not turn on. I held it into the light and could vaguely make out what was on the screen. It would appear that there is no light source in my laptop monitor.

I had another closer look at the monitor into the light again and found a big splodge at the bottom (link an ink blotch) I guess this means that the monitor has broken. What I would like to know is...

Is there any way of fixing this? (If so, how much would it cost)
Do I have to buy a new laptop?
What could have caused this? (I did not drop it or anything, was just left on the floor in my room where it's usually kept. Was a hot day though...)
