File corruption, games crashing,com restarts...HELP!
Here's my system specs:
Asus cuv4x motherboard
64mb geforce2 mx/mx400
128m ram (I have taken all the rest out except for 1)
Seagate ST380011A Barracuda ATA V 7200RPM 80Gb (brand new)
Microsoft Windows XP Professional Version2002
2 fans
350w stock
52x cdrom
Ok heres my problem, my computer works fine until like 3 weeks ago which starts to restart itself and also when I play any game it crashes back to desktop without any error. I have formatted my computer so many times and yet all these problem exists. The file corruption problem starts when I'm even installing windows(the cd is fine, formatted my other com just to test the cd)I had to retry for like 5 times to finish installing XP and now whenever I try to install new stuff to my computer I had to retry installing those files heaps of times to get it to work without error msg saying "file corruption etc" or crc error ( all the files works fine on my other computers)
for game crashes it will sometime happen like 10-15min during the game then it crashes back to desktop and then when I try to get back into the game there will have like a crc error on one of the game's file and I had to reinstall the game or I get in and crashes back to desktop again AND u know when I install files I get "file corruption" This is just driving me insane...it use to work okay by just copying the whole game file from my other coms when the crashes happens but now copying game files still crashes the game....
temp for my motherboard is 25C
temp for my proc is 22C
I've installed latest driver, updated BIOS and directx 9.0b
com restarts doesn't happen much now so I think its a faulty ram but I am keeping a close eye on it.
I'll appreciate any help I can get or should I just let this peice of junk rot..

How did you re-install XP? A Clean Install? Did you add SP2?
What were the exact error messages during install & also "file corruption etc"?
As to CRC:
http://www.computerhope.com/issues/ch000430.htm
Also the latest DirectX is here:
http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/d...displaylang=en
Also: look in your Event viewer: rt. click My Computer then click Manage then Event Viewer.
Or: Administrative Tools/Event Viewer or Start/Run/ eventvwr
Open the system as well as the application tabs & look for X errors. Click error line for details.
Post back the source & event id especially of errors that seem to coincide with a crash.

Hi there, thx for helping......
yup its a clean install, I didn't add sp2 and I just formatted yesterday so nothing is in the harddrive and I only installed 3 programmes (msn7.0,realplayer,adobe reader) since then.
While installing windows random files were popping up saying the file might be corrupt or problem reading from cd(but I used it on my other computer and it was fine, also I change the cdrom over from my other com that was readable and I still get file corrupt or problem reading from cd)
My windows is in chinese so bear with me on the translation.
*There's loadperf error 3001
*application error using realplayer.exe fail module pnvi3260.dll
*error msiInstaller Msn messenger 7.0 MsgrCore.cab is corrupted and cannot be used(install file is fine with other coms, also after 10 tries the installation was compeleted)
*Application error using acrord32.exe fail module acrord32.exe
so pretty much all my application either won't work during install or gets corrupted somehow while I am using it, and the crc error only comes when I play games.
I also check the system log there was 2 errors everytime I start up.
*AMLI: ACPI BIOS is attempting to write an illegal IO Port Address 0xcf8 which lies in the 0xcf8 - 0xcfc protected address range..
other one is the same but the Port address is 0xcfc

Whenever I've seen similar symptoms they were the result of the initial installation of XP.
You say you formatted. Yet a clean install of XP will do it's own formatting.
All you need to do is boot the full version XP CD & follow the steps to Clean Install.
XP will do all the formatting the way it wants to. This is a good guide to installing:
http://michaelstevenstech.com/cleanxpinstall.html
I would try reinstalling.
Sorry if I'm missing something in my reading.
Perhaps someone else will have another idea.

thx jephree, what I mean by formatting is the stuff that you said going through the cd and it auto formatted for me I will try reinstalling XP again then
hope it will work this time......

"Whenever I've seen similar symptoms they were the result of the initial installation of XP."
I concur.
"The file corruption problem starts when I'm even installing windows(the cd is fine, formatted my other com just to test the cd)I had to retry for like 5 times to finish installing XP and now whenever I try to install new stuff to my computer I had to retry installing those files heaps of times to get it to work without error msg saying "file corruption etc" or crc error ( all the files works fine on my other computers)..."
If the CD has been verified as good (no scratches, smudges, etc), it would seem the problem is most likely hardware related. Either how it's set up in the bios, or physically related. Verify all your bios settings. The XP install should advise you of any potential problems in this area, but it only takes a couple of minutes.
Run a CDROM lens cleaner, or swap drives if you have a spare.
Go back to the board level and verify any and all power and data connections are secure. This includes the CPU, add in cards, etc. Remove and reseat the RAM a couple of times to help clean oxides from the contacts.
Test the RAM; MemTest86
Since you've done it already (format etc), kill the hard disk with KillDisk and let the XP install set it up. CAUTION: Killdisk will do just that. The ENTIRE hard disk will be blanked right back to factory levels. As low as the manufacturer allows in it's controller. It will even turn off the SMARTDRIVE on the disk.
Performing the above shouldn't take more than an hour or so, excluding the memtest time, and up to the point of installing XP. At least you'll be confident of the physical connections and eliminate some of the components as the cause.
