    Microphone problem!

    Hello.

I will start by saying that my tech knowledge is intermediate- at best.

I bought a mic today for some audio recording. I have plugged it into the mic input on the back of my PC but it is not working at all.

I have checked the volume in the audio section of the control pa. I have also run the hardware test wizard and there is no sound being picked up.

The hardware its self works fine, I've tested it through an amp.

Is it possible that my sound card simply doesn't have the capabilities to use a Mic? How can I find out what kind of sound card I have and what it is capable of?

For whatever reason the mic is not being detected by the PC at all---I might as well be singing into a sausage.

    Please help! I'm desperate.

    Thank you for any advice!

    What is the operating system?

What is the make & model of computer?

    Also:

go to Start/Run/ dxdiag | Sound

Your sound Device & Driver will be listed there.

This appears to be close to your board:

Does the audio work OK other than the mic?

Is the mic port color coded pink?

Any chance there is a mic port on the keyboard?

    You can try:

    http://www.viaarena.com/default.aspx?PageID=2&Type=1

Folow the path to the chipset VIA 4in1

Scroll down to Retro chipset VIA 4in1 drivers.

It also maybe that the board will not support the mic.
You said you tried in thru an amp.
Is this like a large mic?
Or like a handless phone unit (for example).

it is a large mic- for recording vocals/guitar etc.

however- I have tried a handless phone unit before too and the problem was the same---no sound being picked up at all---i didnt do anything about it at the time as I really wanst that bothered that it didnt work.

ill try the driver d/l and let you know.

thanks for all this by the way----i hope i dont need to go get a new soundcard for this----we'll see
