dvd writer

    cd rom not detected

    I have windows 98se on my computer and I recently moved and now when I go into my computer through the icon it only shows drive a and c no cd rom how can I fix this I checked to make sure all of the cables where connected and I need help

    my brother in law gave me a computer that has a dvd burner and he got a cd stuck in it my boyfriend got the cd out and now the dvd writer light does not come on and the door does not open how can i fix this problem? i have windows 98 on the computer

    I am temporarily merging your threads as they appear at first sight to be quite possiby a single issue. If this is not the case I will split them back for you.

    Looking at both your posts:

    Neither your CD nor your DVD drives are recognised nor powered?

    They are on the same cable? Do either have working lights?

    Are either seen in the BIOS?

    Are the jumpers correct? Are you sure all connections (ribbon & power) are secure? Did you rearrange any cables?

    How about the connection on the board?

    Sorry for confusing...

    I was wondering if we were talking about 1 drive or 2 different drives?

    When you start the computer do you know how to view the BIOS POST?

    If you have a logo screen for your computer it might say either Summary or Setup:

    Press F2 or Esc or Del ... depending on the machine.

    I was wondering if the drives were detected at this basic level?

    Also I was wondering if the lights on the front of the drive flash when you power up?
