Help with my keyboard
I NEED HELP!! I am a moron when it comes to computers, I can turn it on and turn it off, but that is about it -- except when it comes to emails and other things. My question is this. I have a Gateway Essential 933C spacesaver desktop, which ran fine until a couple of weeks ago. The computer boots up, but I get to a screen where it says it cannot find the keyboard or mouse. They are both USB and this computer has no PS2 plug. I am running windows ME, and as I said was fine until a couple of weeks ago. The keyboard and mouse work fine on my laptop, but nothing with my desktop. I am wondering what is going on. The screen tells me to press enter to continue, but I CAN'T USE THE KEYBOARD!!! ANY information would be very helpful.....THANKS!!!

Gateway's site is not much help here. Is this a very old computer?
I did find an almost exact replica of your problem here:
http://groups.google.co.uk/group/com...c41bdef2a21364
Also I found this generic Gateway Support:
http://support.gateway.com/support/m.../desktop.shtml
You say: "They are both USB and this computer has no PS2 plug."
Are you sure of that? I just find it strange that a system would have no PS2 ports.
From the above link you will see that via a PS2 port you would be able to at least run a boot disk.

Thanks for the help. I don't know if it will work. I will try it out and see if it works. I purchased the computer new in 2001. I have updated the memory, that is it. The company that updated the memory for me also found it weird that I have no PS2 plug in. I have another question, would it be easier to buy a larger hard drive and install XP Pro than spend time and effort to get this to work? Thanks so much for the informtion that you have given me.
