Smile cannot start pc looking for any possibl reasons how ever trivial

i have a 2200 amd athlon cpu' gigabyte GA-7N400-L my pc will not start up and i have checked i think every thing. i recentley had a virus i could not remove, i had to reinstalled XP but my cpu was clocking at 1800 with some effort i mannaged to get it to 2400. but my psu with ATX power supply will work in another pc but i cant check the AXT. my pc seemed and was very healthy till now could if any thing be it the ATK cable thats not working i know if the ATX it is not connected the pc will not start and its the only thing i can think mite be causeing the problems

1 other thing before things got this far if i giggled the power lead, with luck it would start up but that option is gone now ok must dash brain cell is almost at vanishing point

Do you get power indications? Fans? Lights? Hard Drive spin?

    Do you get any beeps?

Did the machine ever start after reinstalling XP?

Can you clarify the over-clocking issue?

no power indication no movement at all

yes th machine did restart after i put windows back in i even installed a game and played just to keep a check on cpu temp but i knew soon as i removed the power lead i was gonna have problems restarting

as for the jumper settings it say and ive been told they should be set at 13.5x i think mine was set at 6x a long lost friend worked that out and it was clocking at 2200
as it is to do with mulipuls, 6x seems to make sense well to me any way but its now back at 13.5x and set at auto clocking at 1800 if i go manuley i can get 2400 but its still not 2200 but close

any way no lights no fan its as dead as a dodo bit like me well i am gonna start again trying to solve this problem

another thing i have never liked the case it could be shorting thx for your reply im sorry if my lack of knowlage is poor but try i do lol another thing is if it does restart ill never know the reason how! its all a bit twitchy and luck if it powers up

i am not in a panic state but would love to solve this problem the clocking at the moment is not a problem if i cannot restart the thing thank you must dash the days nearly gone

Ok, to check for shorting is easy, use a torch or other form of light to look under the MB for any metal to MB contact that is not at a screw point.

Next, if your ATX connector is bad, the wires should either be loose or wiggle more than normal (you may be able to see exposed wire)

Check the ATX power connectors on the MB as well...they can be loose or have bad solder joints (cause extra resistance to the power) Cold solder joints will sound like grinding metal if you have one on the connector.

Also, reset your jumpers and Cmos. Reset your jumpers to the lowest settings (just incase the Processor is drawing more power than it should)

replay when you have done some or all of this.

im useing a dule fan psu now because i thought the original that came with the case was naff
but later found out it was'nt

may be its time i bought case wot you think come back ty

Overclocking the CPU might have damaged the CPU, fan or motherboard. The system needs the motherboard and CPU to switch on.

The first thing that I would try would be to reset the CMOS as AphJN suggested. There's usually a jumper setting for this (change the jumper, switch on the power for a few seconds, switch off and put the jumper back to where it was before). Alternatively, unplug from the mains and remove the CR2032 battery for 30 seconds, then put it back in and switch on.

If it's an AMD Athlon 2200+ model, isn't it supposed to clock at 1800MHz in the BIOS anyway? AMDs with a plus symbol after their name are a bit misleading. As far as I know, I think the 2200 rating is just an alleged comparison to Intel processor speeds but, in actual fact, the true rated speed of the processor is notably less, e.g. 1800. On that basis, it sounds to me like your BIOS was detecting it correctly at 1800. If you want to clock it at 2200, then what you've been told is correct - using a multiplier of 13.5 with the 166MHz FSB that I think your Athlon uses will create a true speed rating of 2241MHz. But be warned: overclock at your own risk!
