DVD's are jerky after bad shutdown
I was watching some episodes of ER on a laptop running off just batteries.. when the computer shut down due to empty charge.
After recharging and restarting, all DVD's now have a hollow echo effect and are quite jerky. Does anyone have any ideas please?
Thank you.

What Operating System?
What is the make & model of the laptop?
Perhaps try: System Restore?
Perhaps reload the drivers?
Also check the Device Manager: RT click My Computer then click Manage then Device Manager or go to start/run/ devmgmt.msc for any "!"

All devices in DevMgr are working perfectly fine, there's no system errors anywhere, no !.
Laptop is a Sony A317M, Centrino 1.7ghz, 512/80gb/ATI X600 128mb, running on XP Home.
Tried rolling back drivers for the DVDRW drive, but says that no driver files were backed up for the device. I'm quite wary using system restore.. as it will probably forget all program info that I have installed since the last one. If I can remember the last time I took a snapshot... All file associations and such will be fubar.
I have a feeling it's a setting that got screwed somewhere when the pc shut down improperly.. some tick box in some hidden tab, making the DVD go into safe mode or something.

As to System Restore:
The calendar will show you exactly where the Restore Point is.
A restore point is usually created every other day; or upon any software change.
Start/ Run/ %systemroot%\system32\restore\rstrui.exe
Unfortunatly Sony will not let me search without specific product info.

Thanks for the tip, jephree. Have now restored the system to the day before the crash and DVD's are working perfectly. Keep up the good work!
