does anyone know how to wipe a computer clean
-
What is your end goal?
Are you looking to install a new operating system?
Are you looking to re-install your operating system?
Are you looking to destroy the computer?
-
you could format your hard drive (although files can be recovered, they are not perminantly deleted) by clicking start > run > format [drive letter]:
for example, start > run > format c: if you wanted to format your c:\ drive
-
"start > run > format c: if you wanted to format your c:\ drive"
C: is usually the operating system drive. You shouldn't try formatting the drive you're currently booted to. Boot with a floppy for this action.

You can also Fdisk and wipe the partition. Jephree has good questions tho. Why would you want to wipe everything? If its a personal information then you should use some form of disk shreader program.
-
On a more comic note, you can use a Degaussing coil to wipe the drive from existance!

As stated above, "is this what you really want to do?"
If wiping the entire hard disk for security reasons (personal info/files etc) is your aim, and you're not comfortable with a format only, then download this file and click on it to create a bootdisk which will effectively kill the hard disk of ANY partitions/data. It even turns off the S.M.A.R.T. utility of the hard disk because all information will be gone. (S.M.A.R.T. can be turned back on via either your bios or the disk manufacturers utilities.)
Be careful when using a tool like this. ENSURE YOU ARE ACTIONING THE CORRECT HARD DISK. Once you've "killed" the hard disk, use whatever utilities you desire to partition and format it for use.
