    Help my Pc Keeps Resetting!!!!!

Hi, I Have the following set up in my PC.
    Asus a7v266-e
    AMD Athlon 1900+
    512 ram ddr

Recently my pc kept resetting at random intervals. And now It wont load windows at all without resetting. It will do all the usual start up sequence, detects drives, ram, etc and thats all fine but when the windows loading logo appears it re starts,(XP PRO) However it will start and run fine when I set the CPU to 1200mhz rather than 1600mhz in the bios. Is my CPU or mobo Fried ??? I have tried the following, with no luck.

Bought new heatsink and fan (with compound)
    Updated Bios
Tried starting without unnecessary components ( no sound card, only 256 ram, no other pci's etc. )
    New HDD

Even when cold it wont start.
    Please help!!!!!

I was going to suggest that you check the jumper configuration, but after reading the manual its 'jumper-free!'

The only thing I can think of is that your CPU can not handle being over-clocked / or re-clocked from 1.2ghz to 1.6ghz because -

    1) It over heats
but you've probaly cured this -
Bought new heatsink and fan (with compound)
    2) Your CPU wasn't designed to work at that high speed

    3) You RAM can't cope with the 'increase' in the FSB due to the 'increase' in is CPU speed.

That's all I can think of for now.

Do you get any errors when it stops? Have you looked in the Even log for any errors?

Meckanix is correct on the memory. Not all memory is made the same, some is so lose in its tolerances that any deviation from 266mhz will cause the memory to fail, while others are so good that they can go to 533 without a hitch.

I know that Crucial and Viking are two that do handle higher frequencies with ease.

Also remember that overclocking comes with consequences, if you components, from Memory to Controllers, can not handle the higher frequencies, your system will hang or worse, fry.

Thanks For replies guys, but isnt my cpu designed to handle being used at 1600mhz, therefore nothing is being overclocked????? All help very welcome

    what size power supply?

the Athlon XP 1900+, 133MHz fsb, 12.0x clock mutiplier, should give you 1.60GHz clock speed

Is a stick of RAM playing up?

350w power supply, the strange thing is it has been working fine at 1600mhz for
ages, but now it wont!!! Ive tried new ram, same problem. Ive been messing about in the bios and slowly upped the speed (multipliers and frequencies), The quickest I could get it up to was 1.36Ghz before it failed to boot, which is way off the 1.60 it should be running at. Dont know what else to try guys, could it just be the cpu is fried???

P.s .............No error messages, just restarts.

Not your CPU, your Motherboard. The problems you describe are possibly the Memory controller or the interface between the Memory and the CPU. Your symptoms are very similar to overclocking problems where you push the memory and memory controllers too far into a timing failure. This is why I say motherboard.
