Hi all, I have been having problems lately with my PC. Even my oldest games are running really slowly. I wouldn't be so worried if the games didnt run before but they ran perfectly. now they just do not work. I tried defragging my hard drive but it did nothing to help and I have formatted my computer recently and removed all the crap that builds up but nothing. Whereas before i got steady 40-60 FPS i get about 3-5 now even when I turn all settings down. I recently upgraded my PC from 512Mb RAM to 1GB. I also upgraded my graphics card to a RADEON 9800 Pro 128mb (made by PEAK which I was a bit worried about). Im not 100% sure but I think the problems started when I had the upgrades. could moving from a GeForce 440Mx to a 9800 Pro really degrade my performance. If not then what is my problem?
Thanks for any help recieved.
Did you uninstall the old video drivers before installing the new?
When you reformated did you reinstall your board & firmware drivers?
Are you sure the RAM & video card are compatible with the motherboard?
yes, yes and no. how can I find out?
If you know the make & model of the motherboard & RAM please post.
If you don't know:
Download this: http://www.lavalys.com/products/over...ng=en&pageid=1
Your exact RAM will be listed under Motherboard/ SPD
Your motherboard under Motherboard/ Motherboard
motherboard name = MSI 865PEM2-ILS (MS-6743)
Motherboard ID = 05/06/2003-Springdale-G-6A79AM4AC-00
RAM = DIMM1: Samsung M3 68L6423DTM-CB3
DIMM2: 512 MB PC3200 DDR SDRAM
Is this any help?
I am unsure which RAM is the new and which is the old sorry
thanks for all the help jephree
First off you have 2 different RAM speeds & brands.
The speed will go down to the lowest but mixing brands is possibly problematic.
DDR RAM PC2700 (DDR333) - Samsung M368L6423DTM-CB3
512 MB PC3200 DDR SDRAM - unknown
Here is a MSI page for your board & its' peripheral compatibilities:

Hi, sorry about the late reply, been on holiday. Do you think I would get better performance if i removed the new RAM leaving just my standard RAM fitted? Any way to know which is which?
thanks again
If these problems started with the upgrades I would go back to the way it was (if possible). I know you also changed drivers & firmware.
You could start with the RAM. Try just one stick & see if there is any difference?
Try either one or the other one at a time.
If this makes no difference try reverting back to the old graphics card.
You said: " RADEON 9800 Pro 128mb (made by PEAK which I was a bit worried about)."
Are you sure that this card is compatible with your board?
This is just a brief quote from my above link:

08 ATI Radeon 9700 Radeon 9700 (8X) 128MB/DDR SDRAM 113.94206.101 8x-OK
I tried taking one of the RAM sticks out, not the other one yet and there was no difference. Is it important that I try both? Also, my video card is not listed in the link. Thanks for the help by the way
