Have you added anything to your PC ? have you tried uninstalling then reinstalling the video card drivers?

Nope I haven't installed anything besides a printer, scanner, Norton Internet Security, and the updates at http://v4.windowsupdate.microsoft.com/en/default.asp

I ran the quickrestore disk on my PC to restore it to it's factory preset because I was having some other issues with my computer. After running quickrestore I installed all of the objects mentioned above and didn't recieve any problems untill the Automatic Windows updater ran and installed something and then asked me to restart my computer and then when I restarted I had the problems with the resolution. I've had all of the mentioned products installed on my computer before and have never had this problem so I don't think it's anything that I installed.

As for installing drivers I've tried this one but it didn't help out any http://www.nvidia.com/object/win9x_71.84.html

I didn't uninstall any drivers before installing that one so how would I go about doing that?

In the "System Configuration Utility" there is a button that says "Launch System Restore" is that it?

And the factory restore disk has programs, drivers, etc. on it.

I think it maybe not got a PC running ME no more.. if it is pick a restore date before you had the problems and did the update

Boot the computer to Safe Mode options (F8 after BIOS) & choose:
    "Enable VGA Mode".
Go to Control Panel, Add/Remove Programs.
Find your graphics card driver package & uninstall.
While in Control Panel, go to System, Hardware, Device Manager.
Expand (Click +) besides Display Adapter,
Right Click your graphics card, Choose Properties, Drivers, uninstall.
Reboot the Machine - It will re-detect your graphics card.
    Then re-install the drivers.

I can't do the restore thing because the quickrestore erased all of the saved restore points. Jephree I'll try your suggestion right now and let you know if it works.

    ***edit***

ok it didn't work. There was no option to start in VGA mode when I started in safe mode and after unistalling my graphics card package the display adapter in the device manager was gone completly so I couldn't uninstall the driver there and now my computer is stuck in 16 color after doing that with the options to go to 256 and two true color options missing completly from the drop down menu.
