512 kingstonvalue ram
westgate 80g Hd
quantumfireball 20g Hd
win2000 pro
Now the problem is that iam getting pixalation on my background and when i try to play movies i get pixalation problems and sound problems but dont get them when Iam online or in games(well actually gert a little online but looking at this screen i have none)

Ive updated all my drivers and looked in all the places to see errors (event viewer ect.) but dont see any thing relivant)
Its almost like this computer doesn't like itself.
Ive tried to insall XP but could never get dial up to work with it so went back to 2000pro
any help would be great
the only thing i can figure is it does not like the config

yes I have tried to back down the excelleration that didn't work either.
and as for the compatibility issue it was working but i brought the wrong proccesor, a sempron 2200, and then upgraded that to the athlon and thats when the problems started, it seems. but it almost seems like some kind of bus problem because my dvd won't play movies right either.any other ideas would help alot that dont involve me buying a new video card or really anything else as i spent what money i had to build this computer(its actually a upgrade from another computer and the only things that are new are the MB,video card and ram. And like i said at one point i had this thing running right but tried to install XP on it a couple of times and went back to 2000pro
I don't know if this would cause the problem or not either, even though I cann't see why it would

You have done everything I would have myself. I will have to think some more on it and do some research...Hopefully another can chime in with what they think.

Sorry I havent helped much.

The problem could be in Win 2k, as its not designed for graphics. I know I had loads of problems with DVD play back when I was running 2k, that why I upgraded to XP.

Also check your direct X

Look under Display for any errors.

Also check the Device Manager: RT click My Computer then click Manage then Device Manager or go to start/run/ devmgmt.msc for any "!"

Also: look in your Event viewer: rt. click My Computer then click Manage then Event Viewer.
Or: Administrative Tools/Event Viewer or Start/Run/ eventvwr
Open the system as well as the application tabs & look for X errors. Click error line for details.
Post back the source & event id especially of errors that seem to coincide with this issue.

I tried all of the things that jephree had wrote and checked the dxdiag. whats really bothering me is that if you look at it without the graphics problem it shows nothing wrong. At least i can't find anything wrong. guess I'll try to go to either sapphires or ATI's websites and see if they can tell me.
thanks for all your help everyone.
