I have a high pitch noise coming from somewhere in the box. I can't figure out where it is coming from (pretty sure it isn't the harddrive).
Thank you for coming to DAL.
What game, What video card do you have, what operationg system? This could be almost anything and maybe nothing. Please answer the first three questions and we can start.

I posted it...I don't know why it cut it off.

How old is your FX5200? Also, the noice, you say its a high pitch, is more of a high whine? or is it like that of a TV when its on? (Some can not hear a TV when its on..I, unfortunately, am one who can.)
Another quick question, have you opened the case and tried to listen to where you hear the noise?
I bought the FX5200 card last year. Everything was bought last year.
At first I thought it was my TV going out (it is really old), but when I turned off my TV it was the computer. I opened the case and tried to listen but it is pretty annoying. You can hear it from another room easily. It seemed to be coming from the back half of the computer. Maybe power supply, video card, or processor.
Thank you. That helps bring it closer to focus.
Your TV whine is from the Flyback transformer connected to the tube. The Powersupply has a transformer as well and may be worn or just on the bad side (not always the case) the other part is that is only happens in WOW. Your Video card changes its frequencey with resolution. IF WOW runs at a different V Freq than your other applications it may be whats causing the noise. (There are 2 frequencies, V and H, vertical is usually in kiloHZ and horizontal is in Hz (Normally from 60 to 85)
Have you tried changing the resolution of WOW to either higher or lower than what it currently is at? If it goes away with the change of resolution then the Vid is causing the problem.
I will check it tonight when I get home. I played for about an hour yesterday and it didn't even start making the noise. I haven't changed the resolution since november...would this be something that just starts?
Hopefully, this won't be one of those random problems which are the most annoying kind.
Yup, it can be and yes, it will sometimes just start.
Also check your fans, as the barings in them might be on their way out. I've seen it happen a lot in heavy machinery / cars ... etc
Failing that just double check -

Thanks to both of you. I played last night (about 2 hours) and it did not do it, so I will keep these tips in mind if it starts again.
