Can anyone help me. Newish business and my pc will not boot up. Been fine for 3 yrs but got stuck last night while not using it. Could not switch off, had to remove power. This morning it will not boot, but sometimes gets half way and starts to boot again. Lots of continual and intermittant clicking sounds from pc, not usually there.

Sounds like your hard disk has died.

Is it a Windows 98 PC? Do you have a Windows 98 Startup Disk or boot disk? If you can start it up from a floppy boot disk, it will get you to a DOS prompt. You can then type in scandisk /all and press Enter. This will scan the disk for errors.

I have had it looked at at pcworld and they tell me a power surge has damaged mother board and maybe the hard drive!!
I might as well get a new pc and pray the hard drive works as a slave???
