Exclamation Comp Stuck On 16 Bit!

I'M HAVING THIS HUGE, MAJOR PROBLEM! LAST NIGHT I TURNED ON MY COMPUTER AND FOUND MY MOUSE CURSOR GONE, THE DESKTOP ICONS GOT HUGE, ALONG WITH EVERYTHING ELSE, AND THE COLORS ARE STUCK ON 16 BIT AS WELL AS THE RESOLUTION BEING TOO BIG. I CHANGE AND RESTART THE COMPUTER, ONLY TO SEE THAT IT DOESN'T WORK AND EVERYTHING GOES BACK ALL MESSED UP. CAN SOMEONE PLEASE TELL ME WHAT WENT WRONG AND IF THERE'S ANY POSSIBLE WAY I CAN FIX THIS MYSELF! PLEASE GET BACK TO ME! I MISS MY COMPUTER!

Sounds like the computer has lost the driver for the graphics card. You might need to download the latest driver for it.
What OS are you running? Have you tried system restore?

Well, I fixed that problem, but now my volume control doesn't work! I have gone to systems and removed the audio. When I restart my computer it says installing new hard ware, but the little speaker thing doesn't show at the bottom of the screen! What could be causing this?! Please get back to me!

My computer was fine when all of a sudden I restarted it. I got HUGE desktop icons, HUGE everything. First I "lost" my mouse, disconnected it, rebooted and it is fine now. BUT no matter what I do I can NOT get the small icons back. I have run all the anti virus softward, all the adaware and spyware programs.... nothing.

NOW my homepage colors are black and gray. Supposed to be very vibrant multi colors. Everything is distorted !

HELP !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! What causes this anyway ?

    Thanks !

Could be that your graphics card drivers are corrupted and need to be re-installed. If you right-click on a blank space on the desktop and go to Properties and then the Settings tab, it should show a slider bar with the resolution. Does it say that you're running at 640x480 pixels? Does it also say that you're running in 16 colours?

Could you please run the D-A-L.com Online Hardware Scan so that we can find out some more details about your operating system and graphics setup? You can run the scan by going to http://www.d-a-l.com/hardware-scan.html

    Thanks

I've been having a similar problem. My work computer is stuck on 16-bit, 640x480 resolution, and I have no idea how to go about curing this problem. Excuse the lack of computer knowledge, but I don't even know where to check to see what video drivers are installed, much less where to find new drivers to reinstall. I did, however, run the scan that was linked to, and I'd appreciate it muchly if I could get some assistance in curing this ailment that has befallen this wretched machine.

    Judas,

You have a PC Chips M748LMRT motherboard (which I've built a PC with myself, so I ought to have the drivers lying around somewhere). The motherboard has 8Mb on-board graphics, which means that the PC doesn't have a separate graphics card fitted - it's all part of the motherboard. The D-A-L.com Online Hardware Scan shows that Windows is only recognising it as the default VGA graphics card, which runs at 640x480 resolution in 16 colours (not 16-bit).

The PC Chips web site doesn't have the graphics drivers for that motherboard available as a download. Do you still have the CDROM that contains all the drivers for the motherboard? If so, pop it in and run the install program for the graphics/video/display drivers.

If you need to download the drivers, you can get them by clicking this link to the appropriate page that I found on DriverGuide.Com:

Let us know if that helps

Extract from a manual I found:

    Attention:
This mainboard series includes four different models.
They are M748LMRT (LAN/Modem Ready), M748LRT (LAN Ready), M748MRT (Modem Ready) and M748T (without LAN & Modem).
Please contact your local supplier for your purchase model.
Each model will support different specification, list as below:
    Model Specification
M748LMRT Onboard LAN chip (U5), LAN header (LAN1), LAN extension bracket and a Fax/Modem DAA module

M748LRT Onboard LAN chip (U5), LAN header (LAN1), LAN extension bracket
    M748MRT Support a Fax/Modem DAA module
    M748T ---

Your mainboard package ships with the following items:
    Mainboard
    This User’s guide
    1 UDMA/66 IDE cable
    Floppy diskette drive cable
Audio ports and Game/MIDI port extension bracket
    Serial/Parallel ports extension bracket
    VGA extension bracket
    Support software CD-ROM

Anyhow, too much stuff to look at, so I'll let you download it all. Please double check the drivers etc are for your PC first.

Here's your manual, drivers and BIOS:

HANG FIRE! The drivers for the chipset where there a minute ago???

OK No drivers, sorry to doubt ya DJ - I must have clicked a wrong link somewhere.

Anyhow ya BIOS and Manual are there. And if you have the CD the place to look is:
    D:\VGA\SiS620\

SiS620 reference drivers from SiS (though may not work as PCChips may have modified the way the board does stuff)

Chipset drivers for Windows 98, Windows NT4.0, Windows 95, Windows 98 SE, Windows 2000:
    http://download.sis.com/download_ste...os=3&x=17&y=12

I'm off for me brekkie now.

    This one's worn me out
