NEC ND 3520a problems since new build

Hi everybody, Just built a new PC, 3.0ghz on a P4P800e Deluxe Asus board. I have used my old 40gb & 120gb ide hard drives with a new Maxtor Diamondmax 10 200gb SATA drive. Everything is working perfect except for my NEC Nd 3520a DVD Writer. I have another Dvd/cd combo drive set as the Slave with the NEC set as master on the same cable. The NEC will spin when I insert a disc but will not read the contents and will not record anything. Nero recognises the drive but gives me the error during a test "LOGICAL UNIT COMMUNICATION CRC ERROR ( ULTRA DMA/32 ) ( 04083 ).

Both these units worked fine on my old PC.

I am at a loss a little bit when it comes to setups so any help in dummy english would be greatly appreciated.

    Cheers
    Johnny

Are you using the same ribbon cables that the old PC had or are you using new ones.

Try disconnecting the combo drive that you're running as a slave and see if that makes any difference. If it does, then double-check the jumpers on the DVDRW to make sure it is set to Master and not Cable Select, and also on the CDRW combo drive to make sure that it is set to Slave and not to Cable Select.

Let us know if these suggestions help

In fact, check the jumper on the DVDRW even if disconnecting the slave drive doesn't make any difference. The Cable Select option can be very temperamental.
