One thing might be to remove all the connects and check for dirt, especially on the RAM.

If the RAM is dirty you can clean it with a standard rubber based eraser (not one of those art / graphic putty rubbers).

Otherwise your BIOS is fried and could possibly have a virus

Failing memory can certainly cause a boot failure. So can video (bios/ROM) errors.

I seriously doubt the bios is "fried". Especially when getting beep codes.

    What motherboard do you have?

There's AMI Beep Codes here and here but they don't seem to match what you have described. (It is mentioned (at the first link) that; "However because of the wide variety of different computer manufacturers with this BIOS the beep codes may vary."

Is it 1 short beep, pause, then 2 short beeps?

    "...tried without any ram.."

Systems need at least one "stick" of RAM.

Are you getting anywhere with the beep codes? You still haven't described if they're "long" or "short" beeps.

    Is the cmos battery old?

    Can you enter the bios?

When I got these beeps on ASUS boards with AMI it was the AGP card not seated all the way down. You should get a beep code without ram, dont know what it is rightly, but I know you do. Beeps are good...That means your MB and Processor are atleast working...

with no ram it should be 2 beeps I think

I seem to think its something to do with the battery holder moving...it's been playing up for a while rebooting all the time, and all I get off M$ when I sent the error report is it's a driver issue..........

I have tech on Monday, I'll ask one of the IT technician's there....
I've another board on the way so I may need to buy some more bits for another PC..

I got the new motherboard today did exactly the same beep code but a burning smell (1 stick of ram was red hot) phoned up a local PC shop and asked if I brought some RAM and it didn't do the job could I take it back..

I took My PC to the shop they checked my RAM all was ok checked the PC all was ok so I did buy some more RAM off them what service it pays to go to the little PC shops not some of the chain stores

So I'm a happy bunny PC up and running again

Thanks for all the input I'll use this site again.... lol

I'd mention the shop if I could but's in Trench, Telford by the Bridge Inn
