Do you see anything on the screen at all during the boot process?

Do you have a Function / Func / Fn key on your keyboard and a key at the top e.g. F7, F5, etc that's labelled CRT/LCD ?

Aperently according to my my boss it takes over 1hour to start booting up. It has a blank sreen and the power light is on and its making no noise. So I dont lnow if its the CMOS or the laptops on its way out.

Over an hour to start booting up?!! Never heard of that before. OK then, switch it on tonight and let us know what you see in the morning!

Well i managed to get the laptop working but i reckon theres a problem with the power not the CMOS battery or motherboard. To get it to boot up i left it on for an hour and then switched it on and off until it booted up. So does anyone else think it could be the power supply?

Disconnect the power supply and see if you have the same problem when it's running on the battery. That will determine whether a new power supply would fix it. I've had power problems on a laptop before but it turned out to be an internal fault so a new PSU wouldn't have helped.

So it's not the external power supply that's causing the problem then. Do you have another laptop of the same model?

Maybe you could try swapping the hard drive / CDROM drive / Floppy drive to see if one of those is causing the problem?

Failing that, it'll be a case of sending it off to a laptop repair specialist (e.g. the manufacturer) for repair - they often charge a fee to look at the problem and diagnose the fault, then they'd give you an additional quote to fix it.

Well i dont think my boss wants to send it away to be repaired lol. Also we dont have a laptop the same as this. I think we will end up sending it off or wait for it to boot up and put windows on it see if we can find the problem using windows. If this problem was on it a few years ago then we would be under our viglen garentee and they would come and repair it.
