Dell Dimension 3000 Bios
I recently purchased a dell Dimension 3000 and would like to replace the supplied bios with something more accessible.
Is it possible to reflash the one supplied which appears to be an AMIbios with Dell version A02.
The motherboard is an Intel D865 GVDS with E210822 annotated on it.
Help and/or comments would be appreciated.

It might be possible. Having worked for Dell I can tell you that if you manage to make this happen and you lose your OS, the OS disks supplied will not reinstall on your system. Due to a contractual agreement with MS, you Windows OS is branded to work only on Dell bios'd systems. Dell makes they Bios with very little options for the reason of support. If the options are limited, it will cost less to train phone support on those options. (Not like Phone support truly has much of an option since I left..worked from 95-96 in Austin..couldnt take the phones any longer)

Thanks AphJN,
This is what I feared. The restriction placed on this would, I can see, help Dell, but it certainly limits the customer's options. It's all a question of cost I suppose.
Thanks for your advice anyway.

Sorry if its not what you wanted to hear. I know back in the late 90's we had calls and support bulletins where customers had done what you asked and it screwed up the Dell imbeded software (the little extra programs on the Laptops and Dimensions that are pointless) It was not supported but the system didnt stop it. Microsoft is the one that stopped the practice cold. I was in Engineering support when the contract came in. People were selling their copies of Windows and using Linux or some other OS and MS didnt like that.
