hd speeds up

    hd speeds up

    my hd sounds like it is searching or doing something, then kicks me offline. can somebdy help me please. does this at no certain time. last night did it while i was doing a virus scan. also does it while playing online games.

    how old is your hard drive, and what virus scanner are you using,also what OS do you have installed.

    What processes do you have running?
    (Check Task Manager and MSCONFIG/Startup.)

    Have you changed any swapfile settings from the default settings?

    As posted above, what O/S etc? The more info you provide the easier it will be to help.

    if u could check out the info under the windows xp forum. it is dated 4/11/2005. have norton virus scan. haven't changed any swap files that i know of. have about 37 proccesses in task manager. my friend wrote the other messages. i don't know much about computers. just want to fix this problem. thank you for any help you can give me.

    not sure if this means aynthing, last night in task manager, system idle process was 31, after it did the speed up thing it was 99.

    Do you happen to have warrenty still on computer.Because to me it sounds like maybe your hard drive is getting ready to go.But heres things i would check.
    1. is your virus scanner up to date and when was the last time you did a full scan
    2.go into the hardware device manager and check for ?
    3.and maybe if you got it try the reinstall disk that comes with prebuilt computers, but realize that this may take your system to manufacturer defaults and erase any thing you have added since you got it new.
    But understand I am no expert and could be totally wrong,but Ive had Optic drives do this and then stop working and had to buy new.
