    Memory read error

i got an Application Error hl2.exe (half life 2) with 0x24178c2b referenced memory at 0z00ba2ed0 memory could not be "read". in my event viewer i have a lot of application hangs and errors. use to have a DrWatson problem, but i disabled it and it rarely does what it use to which is freeze the desktop, now it would only "refresh it". but i get a lot of errors trying to play counterstrike and half life. the game will freeze a lot at 8x AGP, if i put it at 4x it works a lot better. i read that pc chips mobo's generally arent good for high quality games. theres no option to diable onboard vga, but only picking a primary display adapter.

You have a few options -
    1) Always make sure your card is running at AGP 4
    2) Change your mobo out for a higer spec board (i.e. Gigabyte, Asus, MSI .. etc)

Regarless of what you choose, I recomend that you run a defrag and run a check disk during the PC's start up*, but be aware it can add a few mintues to your boot time.

*To run a check disk dueing start up you have to go into my computer, right click on your main booting drive (the on with XP on) and the drive with HL2 (if they are not on the same drive) and select properties.
Once the screen opens select Tools, select 'Check now...' in the Error Checking box and then tick both of the tick boxes.
This will then generate a dialog box asking you to restart the PC.
