Help please....
What a nightmare night, i have just installed my new SATA drives, however i have just clipped one of the round resistors on my GF 6800 ultra and it pinged off, i cant beleive this has happened. What should i do.
2 options.
1. Return it to overclockers and see if they can fix it and be without CSS for two weeks.
2. See if i can solder it back on myself, bearing in mind this card cost over £400.
How likely am i to completely knacker the car if i do it myself??? Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Very. Unless you have years of experience soldering, Give it to someone who does. Most boards have surface mount devices or low watt solder. A 23w iron might do the job, but not knowing how small the resister is it would be hard to tell you.

its one of the larger ones by the molex connectors, i think it would be worth sending it back, if i dont and someone else knackers it im screwed with the warranty

Best thing to do is send it back.
I've been playing with soldering irons as a hobby for years, but more recently I've been doing some more serious work, but even I wouldn't bother, especially under warrenty.
Why do the work on something old, when you can get something brand new for free
Just make sure you specify that you didn't force the compents and only just touched it.

i didd exactly that and they said tough luck, so i got my mate at work to do it, its working so far...... I spent almost a grand at overclockers.co.uk and they screwed me..... MSI uk were about as much use as a chocolate teapot and told me to contact the vendor, who refered me back to MSI.......etc etc.
I will keep you updated.

I hate that when they send you around in circles.
I have to admit I don't know where we as PC builders stand with a senario like that. On one hand, there's a 12 months manufacters warrenty with the piece(s) of hardware, and on the other there's the clauses which prent you from even touching the dam thing.
So where do we stand????
