Missing drives....
Hi there
I have recently discovered that when I go to 'My Computer' my DVD and CD drives are not being displayed anymore (2 separate drives). My harddisk and Floppy drive are both visible but the others have disappeared from the list. I recently burnt a Cd a few weeks ago and it was fine then but I am not sure when they vanished. I have looked inside and the cables seem fine and not lose but when In put in any disk you cannot access the drives. When you restart the machine the drives are listed on the startup page (Black screen when windows is telling you what hardware you have)
Could this be a virus or just a simple fix I am desperate so please help if you can.

Restore Missing CD Drive
http://aumha.org/downloads/cdgone.zip
[[The popular CDGONE patch. CD drives may vanish in Windows Explorer, Device
Manager, etc. if a third-party CD-burning package has been uninstalled and
Registry references for some code modules aren’t removed successfully. This
patch and a reboot usually will restore the missing drives. Any third party
package still required will then have to be re-installed. For more
information on this and other possible causes, see the “Problems” section of
Alex Nichol’s Burning CDs in Windows XP article.]]
