The old style of low level formatting that I am aware of (the old MFM,RLL days) you had to have a map of the known bad sectors to enter into the Drive map. I would read more about disk manager before using it. IF it requires that sector map, most modern drives do not use it.

If you consult the manufacter of your hard drive, they might have their own low level formatting tool.

These are usually very easy to use and most mordern one's have nice cute and cuddly GUI's with wizards to guide you through.

(p.s. Make sure NOTHING causes your PC to crash during this process, as its extremly difficult to revive the disk!)

I too agree. The term Low Level Format has been (unfortunately) carried across with the evolving technology of todays hard disks. Use the manufacturers drive utilities. Quantum is with Maxtor. The other major manufacturers are pretty well self evident. Seagate.com, fujitsu.com, etc. A search for them will turn them up.
