power-up problem
I built my own computer a couple of weeks ago and after some problems getting win xp to recognize my sata hard drive, i finally got it up and running. Last night it shutdown normally but this morning when i tried to fire it up it wouldnt start. The only indications that i have power to the system are the psu fan is running and the LED on the motherboard is blinking constantly. I'm sure the blinking LED is trying to tell me something but the manual for the mobo doesnt make mention of it and i just dont have a clue as to what is causing the problem. My system specs are:
ASUS K8V SE deluxe mobo
amd 64 3400+ processor
3 sticks of Ultra 512mb PC3200 ram
Ultra x-connect 400 watt power supply
asus cdrw
samsung dvd burner
generic floppy drive
XFX GeForce FX 5500 256mb
WD caviar 200GB SATA HD
If anyone has any ideas on what is causing my problem i would greatly appreciate some help.

Does you system generate any heat? Processor hot? HDDs active or trying to start when you turn power on for the first time? Any beeps?

Like i said in the original post the only things that are happening are the psu fan and the blinking power LED on the mobo. No heat, nothing.

The PSU is not powerfull enough and / or stable enough to run the required hardware.
Some PSU's might say 600watts, but they only kick out about 300 - 450watts. This is especially common is cheeper PSU's. I recently bought a 600watt one from Ebuyer for about £20, for a top end 32bit system knowing it would probably handle it ok, but when I built my 64bit system, I went with a more expensive 650watt PSU.
The moral to this story;
The more money spent = better the quality = the greater the power = the more you can kick the s**e! out of your machine!

I had a computer built about a year ago. Now you cant shut it down either! It will restart no problems but when u shut it down it wont go back up for a while! All you get is a couple spins out of the cpu fan, and a blink of the cd burner and hdd lights and thats it! I put in a different power supply but it was kind of different how it plugged to motherboard and all it did was run the fans and thats it. Got any feedback on it let me know, Thanks.
