    No sound

    Hi,
I have a Gateway 500 computer P111 500mhz 128ram with creative sound blaster audio Pci 128d sound card and operating system Windows 98SE

On booting up, I get an error message
"Resource conflict - Pci in slot 02 Bus:00, devicee, function :00.
Press (esc) to resume (f1) to setup".

When windows finishes loading, I have no sound and when I try even playing a wav file in windows media player, i get an error message saying that there is a problem with the hardware or it is not working properly.

The system is also crashing when I insert a cd into the drive.

I have carried out a complete reinstallion of windows a few times now. After one of the reinstallations I did have sound but as soon as i turned off the computer and rebooted again the sound was gone again. There is no reference to the sound card in Device manager either

Can any of you knowledgeable people help a totally stressed out user?????

The sound card could be fried!

Either that or the card has come out slightly from its PCI slot??

You've already done what I would have suggested, as 98 has no problems with sound blasters, unless you want to use and or have a card that has more than input, output.

Ta very much o Mechanical One,

opened up the computer case and pushed all boards and connections i could get at. Blew out about 4 kg of dust, reformatted the drive and reinstalled everything. Lo and behold, the computer never worked better.
Once again, thanks for your much appreciated help, you have saved me buying a whole load of tranquillizers.
