Confusing PC Issue
I recently dug out my old PC from my mounds of collected stuff in my closet. I intend to give it to an aunt so she can use for basic things like word processing, file storage, emailing, etc. Here's the issue:
A long time ago my sister had used the PC and it froze. You try turning it on again and you can hear it running but nothing comes on. The monitor is turned on but nothing flashes up on the screen. I could not figure it out. I just brought it out and hooked up again and it actually booted up but as soon as I was able to do something, it froze up. Now, turning it on again you hear it running again but nothing works. I'm confused and I've had some friends check it out as well and they're stumped. Is this salvagable? Any help would be great, thanks!

What is the Pavilion model?
Here is the HP site to start searching:
HP Customer Care
Select your model # & search the possibilities.
There will be a Restore option in there but if you are not even getting an HP Logo Screen it is most likely a hardware problem or BIOS.
Again from the HP site check Downloads (for your model #). There maybe a BIOS upgrade.
Also check: "How to change the battery" &/or "clear the CMOS".
HP's knowledge base is very good; just need to look around.
Let us know if we can help further.

Also check the PC for dust, especially in the PSU.
Now where ever you DON'T open the PSU, just use a can of spray air to clean it out and maybe a very light brush (i.e. a SLR camera brush).
Also try and run on the bare minimum of perifierals and drives (i.e. Monitor, Keyboard, Mouse, 1 x HDD and 1 x CD / DVD-ROM)
