AGP voltage woes ;(
I recently wanted to upgrade my graphics card, little did i know how difficult that could be! Looking around the market, the prices go from cheap to cRazy, usually depending on performance. Not being either rich nor poor, a medium priced card was on the books, great i thought, better fps here i come. Doh!!! the blasted agp port, may it rot in hell 4 ever!! lol. Most modern cards are configured to run at 0.8 or 1.5 voltage, i think, pretty sure my mobo runs at 3.3 voltage, ie the 1.0 agp. So what can i do?! The truth be told i am a little confused, because my current graphics card (radeon ve 32 mb) is 1 2 4 speed compatible, and enabled to run at 4 (this is according to my 3D mark 2001. 3D mark also tells me my agp slot is 3.3 volts (shared, PME signal). It also confusinly says my agp is type pci!!! lol when i go into display properties/settings/advanced/adapter/properties/details it says bus type agp 1 2 4 and located in pci bus 1. but this cannot be, i have opened up my pc, and i have two white pci slots and 1 brown agp, with 1 dividing groove in it, located towards the centre of the mobo. anyways my mobo is a microstar inc ms-6506 1.0 bus clock 100 megahertz. i believe you can find a picture of it through packard bell support ( my comp is pack bell)
i guess what i need to know is what kind of card can i put in it, i have in mind the geforce mx 440se agp 2/4 from www.videocardshop.co.uk, its the £17.99 one, model number PV-T17L-QTF.
Please help if can, and sorry the essay!!!!

From what I've read the card you have in mind should be fine. As far as I'm aware the lastest graphics are usually back compatable to AGP 4, but some of the top end ones might not be.
I'm not to sure about the voltages, and to be honest I've never looked into them. As long as the AGP speed is correct, then the card should be fine.
I've never heard of a AGP slot been reclassified as a PCI slot before, what can I say, PC's can lie!
Another thing could should consider is maybe updating your PC's BIOS. This should availible either from the manufacter Packard Bell or the makers of your motherboard.
This hopefully with remove the confusion that your PC profiler is having.
I hope some of this waffle will be usefull to you
