Hard Disk?
Hi
I have a problem with a computer operating very slowly, i have defragmented it but after about half a day its upto 60% defragmented again.
I have virus checked, adware checked etc, cleaned up tmp files etc.
Any help would be appreciated.

Whats your OS?
What type of system are you running? (PIII, P4 etc.)

The OS is windows xp sp2
Atholon XP1800, 512mb ram, 64mb Nvidia graphics

Are you using the XP default Defrag program or another 3rd party? I have found that the default Defrag is the old Win2k defrag and it stinks. I use Norton's Speedisk only because I own the program. DiskKeeper is another pay program that will work as well.
However, back to the fragmentation, are you on an "Always-On" internet connection? Do you run Games, or do you work inside office style apps? Each of these generate a ton of temp files that fragment a hard drive. I would change your IE temp files settings down to 200mb if its higher, and then I would look at your Pagefile settings.

i use diskeeper 8, the computer is part of a office network (approx 20 machines) with ADSL through a server, the computer main uses Open Office, autocad.

Check you network traffic, where its routed through. If you have one machine as your DHCP and this is it, that may cause your fragmentation. Also, Autocad and open office create a few (not as many as MS Office) temp files...I do think they clean them up better though.
