I was just wondering, and please don't think me stupid, but can you combine RAM, at the moment I have 256MB RAM and I wanna little more so I was wondering if I bought another 256MB RAM could I combine the two together to get 512MB RAM? Thanks
    Regards

Ive had the same question for a while and was told this: do not mix speeds or makes of RAM. Mixing sizes is ok (ie 256 and 512). On my last board, i had mixed speed and make of 256MB and it ran OK. however, alot of the newer boards simply wont accept it. If they do accept it, apparently it can still cause unstable systems.

Yes you can combine them as long as they are the same type and speed, If you have any more questions about what kind of memory you need and how to install it correctly you can find it HERE. If you can't find your answer on the website give them a call. I've been using Crucial for all of my memory for quite a few years now and have never had any problems. HTH

does this mean that I can combine a 256 and a 512? Also how can I find out all the details about my memory card?

This is off topic, but When I try and create a new folder the option is not there, in either the file tab or in the right mouse click function, whats wrong? It my documents the toolbar seems to be related to the internet, favourites tab. Is this the problem, IE is taking over my computer?
    Cheers

You can combine a 256/512/1024. ASLONG as it doesnt go above you mobo (motherboards) MAX, DONT mix speeds, DONT MIX ECC/Non-ECC, and Brands mixing is fine most of the time.

You can always take it out of your system

Okay, just to make sure I got this, I want to get another 256MB RAM and combine it with my current 256MB RAM, do I just need to make sure that they are both DDR as my current one is, or is ther more to it? Thanks and if you reply could you please be sure to keep the technical jargon to a minimum Thanks
    cheers

You should get the same speed memory (which is the PC#### number) to avoid conflicts and, as suggested previously, you should find out if you have ECC memory ('Error Correction Checking' or something like that) - check your system documentation or run a diagnostics tool to try and determine this.

In terms of sizes and capacity, you can fit a new 512Mb module alongside your existing 256Mb unit - your modern PC can handle it
