Unhappy Two Computers with the same Floppy Disk Problem Please Help Me

    Hello,
My dad and I are trying to fix the floppy drives in both of his computers. We took one out and put it in the other computer but it would not hook up the same. So, our problem is that both floppy drives are working but when you put a isk in it says" Dive a:/ isn't ready. Then we get a mesage saying that we need to format the disk. We have tried two boxes of new disk and we keep getting this same message. Both Floppy drives seem to be working but we just can't get the computers to regconize them. When you go to the device manager they have no conflicts and are working properly. There has to be a way to fix this. Just by unpluging the drive and then plugging it back up it doesn't want to work. This is very confusing. Please help if anyone knows how to get them working again I would greatly appreciate it.

    What is the operating system?
We took one out and put it in the other computer but it would not hook up the same.
    Hook up? The same? How?
Then we get a mesage saying that we need to format the disk.
In xp you can go to My Computer and then right click on Drive A & choose format; & or check properties there.
Have you tried checking for new drivers?
we just can't get the computers to regconize them.
And yet you say the device manager recognises them?
Do you have any kind of bootable floppy that you could try to boot from? (just as a test of the drive)

Well right now one of the computers is using windows 95 and the other one is using windows 98. The cables where different and the floppy drive that did work would not plug into the other computer. I have tried to format both of them but it keeps saying that there is no disk in the drive and or the device is not ready. Ihave no idea as what to do to fix this.

You might have a problem with the floppy drive controller on your
motherboard. Here is how to find out:

    1. On some other PC, download and create a Win98 boot disk from
    http://www.bootdisk.com/
    2. Boot your problem PC with this disk.
    3. Check if you can see the various files & folders on this disk.
    4. Have another floppy disk ready, then type this command: format b:

If Steps 2, 3 and 4 above work then you have a software problem. If any one
of them fails then you have a hardware problem.

    Something to start from

Well, one of them was not hooked up right and the other one was bad. I hooked the one up the right way and it works great. I had to buy another floppy drive for the other one and now it works too. Thanks for all your help I greatly appreciate it.
