256 ram reconized as 192

I have a stick of 256mb pc2700 in my computer and windows says it's only 192mb i've downloaded everest and some ram cleaning tools and they all say i have 192mb of ram can someone help me with this problem

Have you tried different slots?

Are you sure the RAM is compatible with the board?

Has it always been this way?

etc. ?

I just bought the computer i havent tried didnt slots it should be compatible cause it's from the factory i talked to someone that said they might of setup it up wrong

Although the specs do state 256 I also see that some other models run 192.

I wonder if they just put in the wrong stick.

Are you sure this is installed: SHK05321 DIMM 256 MB PC2700 Major 333Mhz?

Is that what Everest lists?

yes it is a 256 mb chip because i opened my computer up and physicaly looked at it and every program says i only have 192 im going to email compaq and see what they say
