Exclamation cmos checksum error. warning cpu has been changed or cpu ratio changed fail

ok I got everything builded up. MSI mobo Via P4M266A ? + 8235 chipset based wich supports prescott processors. I got also a 2.4Ghz presscott processor with FS of 533mhz. everytime that the computer start up the bios check all the IDE drives and the next msg is ....cmos checksum error. warning cpu has been changed or cpu ratio changed fail . please re-enter cpu
settings in the cmos setup and remember to save before quit
    .

what i have tried is load optimized defaults to the cmos but it keeps freezing up while trying to save changes. I swaped out a cmos battery thinking on the cmos battery and it wasnt since the same thing happens with the other cmos battery (by the way both cmos battery have the same amount of power 3V).

I'm kinda confuse, is there any suggestion? please reply as soon as possible.

    thanks

Hey i have the EXACT same problem. I bought a new motherboard and cpu along with some new memory and get that error everytime i start windows. After awhile i started getting press F1 to contine so i do that and the computer loads and everything is normal. Once in a while it just restarts automatcally, no warning, nothing. I dont know if thats related, but iam sure it is.

Also i get internet explorer error and get that dialog box asking to send or dont send error report. Iam pretty sure thats related to.

I've changed the batter as well but that hasnt done anything. I've resited the cpu and memory and that didnt get rid of the problem either.

Someone please help. This really sucks.

    I feel your pain chicho

    Thanks

Yes, I got it at frys, and I am probably going to return it today if no one can give a response. It is not the battery, I checked that. I also checked the memory, and that the CPU was plugged in properly.
The BIOS is giving me trouble, it freezes whenever I "Save and Exit"

Yea same with me. I saw on other forums people with the same problem. Other people with the same mother board. But i also saw people with different motherboards. Have you tried pressing F1. That lets you continue and windows starts to load??

Hey let me know how it goes if you go back to return it. I might do the same. Iam thinking the reason it was so cheap is cuz there not that great. Too many people had problems with the same mother board. Just let me know if frys takes it back

    Thanks.

Blimey, this seems to be a bit of an epidemic at the moment. It looks like a pretty high spec board but seems to be pretty low quality - loads of people all over the Internet are having the same or similar problems. One unfortunate ECS customer with one of these boards downloaded the latest BIOS update from their web site and, after installing it, the system never turned back on!

I would suggest following Berryonline's example and get it exchanged for a different brand. I hear that the Intel 865 boards, although expensive, are very reliable. In my experience, you do get what you pay for in terms of reliability and ease of installation with motherboards.

this sounds similar to what occurs when the voltage to the cpu is set incorrectly...dunno; just an idea
